Steve Buttry, of the American Press Institute, recently wrote an article addressing those journalists who have been in the field for several years. He advises that any journalist who is getting overwhelmed by the constant technological changes that are happening in our industry jump out of journalism and get into a new career. He suggests that if the changes happening don't excite journalists than they should get out and find a different career that they are just as passionate about.
I don't agree. While the ever-changing industry does need journalists who are great with technology on it's team to aid with the new world of on-line media, I feel it can't do without those who may not be up with the times but are just down right passionate about delivering the news. Those journalists who are having a harder time with the changes in our industry should try and remember the passion that they have for delivering the news and try and keep up the best they can before they just give up and jump out of the profession completely.
I think the newspaper industry has been built up by the fact that usually those who enter this bussiness are passionate about it. To me that passion is the only thing that keeps great news coming story after story. So just because there may be some confusion with new technology theres no need to give up find a new career. Plus, those who are new to the feild may be great with computers but those who have been in it for years could teach us newbies far more about good journalism than we could ever teach them about computers.

I'd say people who can't spell "You're" or "field" or who can't use apostrophes properly probably should look for a new career right now.
